Parent Champion Project

The Parent Champions project is a collaboration with ourselves and SENDiass4BCP.

The project, coordinated by Alexia Tough and delivered by Parent Champion volunteers has been operational since January 2022. All our volunteers have lived experience of accessing special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) support for their child/children in an educational setting.

They all receive an enhanced DBS check and regular supervision from an experienced advisor.

Our Parent Champion volunteers provide a confidential listening and signposting service for families who have children and young people with SEND in Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole (BCP). Providing initial information, advice and support regarding the local offer and other local and national relevant SEND services.

The Parent Champions are currently delivering sessions in 25 primary and secondary schools across BCP.

If your school has a Parent Champion it will be mentioned on their website and in their newsletters. There will be an email address for you to request a meeting.

On the SENDiass website, you can see all the BCP schools who have a Parent Champion and click on each school icon to direct you to their school website.

Your child does NOT have to have a formal diagnosis for you to access the support from a Parent Champion.

If you would like to know more about the role of a Parent Champion you can email alexia.tough@bcpcouncil.gov.uk
